Auto-refresh dashboards and status pages in Chrome

A 30–60 second interval is a sensible first try for live ops boards before you tune faster.

Ops walls, NOC tiles, ticket queues, and vendor status pages all share one annoyance: they go stale the moment you look away. Auto Refresh Turbo is built for that job — timed reload in Chrome without maintaining a custom script per board.

What “dashboard refresh” usually means

Most boards are plain web apps. They do not push every change over a socket. They expect you to reload to see new rows, colors, or incident banners. A scheduled reload mimics a diligent human hitting refresh — on a clock you choose.

This is different from true real-time streaming. If the page already live-updates via WebSocket, you may not need a short interval at all.

Sensible starting intervals

Prove one clean cycle before you chase sub-minute timing. Heavy pages still need time to load.

Setup in four steps

1. Open the board in a dedicated Chrome tab
2. Pin Auto Refresh Turbo (quick start)
3. Set interval → Start
4. Watch one reload, then walk away

Add a daily schedule if the wall should not reload nights or weekends.

Multi-board setups

Each tab can run its own timer:

• Left monitor: main ops board at 45 s
• Right monitor: vendor status at 2 min
• Background: internal queue at 5 min

Use the popup tab list so you do not lose track of what is running.

When hard refresh helps

If tiles look stuck but the network tab shows 200 responses, try hard refresh once. If hard refresh logs you out, turn it off — normal reload is enough for most Grafana-style boards.

When *not* to hammer reload

• During active form edits on the same tab (stop-on-interaction helps)
• On rate-limited APIs that punish polling
• On challenge / captcha pages (suspicious-page stop exists for a reason)

Back off the interval if the site slows down or throws errors.

Manual reload vs scheduled

Keyboard shortcuts are fine for ad-hoc checks. They do not help a wall that must stay fresh for six hours. Scheduled reload frees attention without pretending to be a full monitoring platform — there are no webhooks or alert rules here, just timely refresh.

Trust and local data

Session snapshots and intervals stay in local Chrome storage. Read Privacy Policy before enabling on-page options on sensitive internal boards.
